Monkey Island – Tambopata National Reserve – Night Tour

Day 1.- We warmly welcome our travelers upon their arrival at the airport or bus station, and then escort them to our office for the registration process. From there, we proceed to our office's vehicle,

Embark on a scenic voyage to our pier, where a 40-minute boat ride will whisk you away to our hotel. Upon arrival, savor a refreshing juice crafted from regional fruits, offering a tantalizing preview of local flavors. Our knowledgeable guide will acquaint you with the hotel's procedures, ensuring your comfort and understanding. After settling into your rooms, relax in the tranquil ambiance provided.

The day's adventures continue with a visit to the captivating Monkey Island, nestled in the midst of the Madre de Dios River. Encounter a variety of monkey species, including a distinctive hybrid breed, and keep an eye out for sloths and turtles. Following a delectable lunch back at the hotel, prepare for a two-hour hike through the dense tropical forest, led by an expert local guide. Delve into the wilderness, discovering medicinal plants and ancient trees, some dating back over six hundred years. This exploration within the Tambopata National Reserve offers an immersive wildlife experience, from monkeys and parrots to reptiles and insects, allowing you to truly connect with the jungle's vibrant energy. As night falls, embark on a boat ride along the Madre de Dios River, seeking out nocturnal creatures like alligators, owls, and nightjars, with the chance of encountering the capybara, the world's largest rodent. Sandoval Lake and Matsiguenka Native Community Visit

Day 2.-

The day commences with an early-morning boat excursion heading towards Sandoval Lake, nestled within the Tambopata National Reserve, offering an ideal window to witness the rich tapestry of wildlife thriving in this pristine ecosystem. Trekking along a wooden path spanning nearly 3 kilometers (1.8 miles), we embrace the opportunity to encounter the region's abundant fauna. Upon reaching the path's culmination, a quaint dock awaits, ushering us onto a rowboat for an immersive exploration of Lake Sandoval. Amidst this journey, the prospects of encountering black caimans, giant otters, herons, monkeys, and a myriad of other fascinating creatures abound, enriching our experience. Returning to the lodge before noon, we refuel with a hearty lunch, preparing for the afternoon's escapades.

In the afternoon, we delve into the cultural tapestry of the region with a visit to a family from the "Matsigenka" community, offering a rare opportunity to engage with indigenous traditions firsthand. From archery demonstrations to the intricate art of spinning cotton for their traditional attire, known as Cushma, and crafting ropes from plant bark, we delve into their ingenious methods of survival and cultural practices. Furthermore, we glean insights into their ancient techniques for fire-making using natural resources, fostering a profound cultural exchange. As twilight descends, we embark on a flashlight-guided exploration of the jungle trails, unveiling the enchanting nocturnal realm teeming with porcupines, sloths, owls, and an array of other nocturnal creatures. Concluding our exhilarating adventure, we return to the hotel for a delectable dinner and a well-deserved rest, brimming with memories of our immersive Amazonian odyssey.

Parakeet Clay Lick – Local Farm Visit – Jungle Exploration

Day 3.-

Set sail on an early morning boat excursion, offering a glimpse of the extraordinary spectacle that unfolds as the Amazon awakens to the radiant sunrise, painting the sky with hues of gold and crimson in a breathtaking natural display.

Venture onwards to the renowned La Cachuela clay lick, a haven for parrots and macaws, where an array of vibrant avian species congregate on the river cliffs. Marvel at the sight of medium-sized macaws, parrots, and parakeets indulging in their daily ritual of ingesting clay rich in essential mineral salts, a behavior crucial for their digestion and metabolism. With luck on our side, we may witness up to seven species of these enchanting birds, a testament to the Amazon's rich biodiversity. After immersing ourselves in this awe-inspiring spectacle, we return to the hotel for a well-deserved breakfast.

Following breakfast, delve into the agricultural rhythms of the rainforest with a visit to a local farm, where you'll gain insights into plant grafting techniques and soil diversity. Sample an array of typical rainforest produce, from coffee and cocoa to citrus fruits and bananas, experiencing the flavors that flourish in this lush environment. After a delightful Amazonian lunch and a brief respite, embark on a guided walk through the verdant jungle, encountering towering giants that have stood for over 700 years.  See the forest's diverse fauna, from toucans and hummingbirds to monkeys and orchids, in a truly immersive exploration of the Amazon's captivating ecosystem.

Piranha fishing and departure

Day 4.-

After indulging in a satisfying breakfast, we embark on a boat to get back to Puerto Maldonado for airport transfer, we recommend to get flights after 9:30 am so you get on time to check you in.

  • Piranha fishing is (Optional)  for people with night bus departure after 6 pm or for people staying in a hotel in the city


After arriving to Puerto Maldonado city you will get into the abundant ichthyofauna inhabiting the jungle's waterways. Cast your line and immerse yourself in the thrill of fishing for a diverse array of species, from piranhas  and cichlids to eels and freshwater stingrays, amidst the tranquil beauty of the Amazon. This sustainable and respectful encounter with the aquatic life of the Amazon offers a truly unique opportunity to connect with this vibrant ecosystem.

Following our fishing adventure, we return to the city to gather any belongings you may have left at our office, ensuring a seamless transition to your next destination.   • In these parts of the Amazon there are no land roads o access the jungle, most transportation is by motor boat.
  • Motorboats are designed to carry 20 to 40 people on a trip
  • We have scheduled daily times where speedboats transport to and from the natural reserve area, every day a speedboat arrives in the city of Puerto Maldonado around 9 am to catch some departing morning flights.
  • Another boat leaves daily from Puerto Maldonado to the Nature Reserve starting at 9:50 am. In case there are flights arrivng before 11:30, we will wait for them to be able to leave as a group.
  • One more boat leaves the nature reserve at approximately 4:00 pm. arriving in Puerto Maldonado at approximately 5:00 pm for people who have a night bus to Cusco or who will overnight in the city of Puerto Maldonado
  • If you have flight out after 9:00 a.m. We recommended you to take our motor boat after breakfast so we can drop you off to the airport at any time your flight is scheduled for.
  • Motorboats spend around $100 USD of gasoline per hour of transportation, we can open a new boat deperture for free if a minimum of 8 passengers want to leave from the natural reserve.
  • If you are 2 people, we can arrange a motor boat to start the tour at anytime your flight arrives, for solo traveler please arrive before 9:30 am or let us know so we can manage in advance to join you to a group
  • In case you want to leave the natural reserve at any time, we can rent a private boat for you, but it will cost $100 per hour depending on Jungle hotel location and it is  required to pay in advance
