Road trip to natural reserve, motor boat and walk

Day 1.- Reception at the airport or bus station and transfer to our office for the corresponding records. In the event that you have large suitcases, we suggest that you repack and take only what is necessary.

Transfer by land to our destination for approximately 1:30 hours until we reach the banks of the Tambopata River. In this place we will take a boat to the ecolodge. Welcome and delivery of rooms, Lunch.

In the afternoon, we will take an introductory walk to the tropical jungle where we will have the opportunity to see animals in their natural habitat such as amphibians, mammals, reptiles and wonderful insects, among others.

Hike to Sandoval lake

After breakfast we will walk 3 km. In the middle of the dense tropical jungle and we will go to Lake Sandoval (habitat of piranhas) one of the largest in the Tambopata National Reserve and we will ride a rowing boat where we will appreciate a great variety of birds and monkeys of different species, (shansho, cormorant, jacanas, puma heron, gallinazos, cotomono, monkeys friar, black machin, pichicos and sloths). Perhaps we will have an encounter with the giant otter family (almost two meters long) that is in danger of extinction and the largest alligators registered over 4 meters long, return to the Lodge to enjoy the typical lunch

After a delicious lunch and we will return to the city, transfer to the airport and / or bus station.

Chuncho clay lick and depart to Sandoval lake

We woke up very early, at 4:30, to leave for the largest macaw clay lick in the world, the Chuncho Clay lick, in a trip of approximately 1:30 hours, by boat, on the way we will have the incredible opportunity to see Some species such as the ronsocos, which are the largest rodents in the world, sachavacas, and even the most beautiful South American feline, the jaguar, can be seen, many of our clients testify with photographic evidence of encounters with these beautiful mammals, breakfast style.

Once we get to the macaw clay lick we will see hundreds of parrots of different species that come to eat clay from the wall adjacent to the river. We will settle into our saddles to wait for one of the most beautiful natural bird shows in the world to begin. The parrots are followed by the 3 most colorful macaw species in America, red and green, plus blue and yellow, they come together to eat the clay necessary in their daily diet and eliminate toxins. On a good day of activity you will see hundreds of these wonderful animals flying over you. An experience for a lifetime

Return to our ecolodge, lunch and rest.

After a good lunch, our boat will take us to transport back to Puerto Maldonado and transfer for 1 hour by boat to a second ecolodge located on the route to Lake Sandoval and installation in their respective rooms.

At night we will go in search of white alligators that are generally found on the sandbanks, in the Madre de Dios River, for which it will be necessary to carry a flashlight. In addition, we will be able to see the capybara, the largest rodent in the world that can weigh 60 kilos, return to the refuge, dinner and rest.

What kind of weather can we find in the Amazon Jungle? It is sunny year-round, and like any other tropical rainforest, it can be hot and humid. The average year-round temperature is 27°C (80°F), with nights being slightly cooler. December to June is the rainy season, with April and May experiencing more rain, and temperatures normally between 23°C (73°F) and 30°C (86°F).
