Day 1.- Your Sandoval Lake Tour begins with a warm reception at the airport or bus station, followed by a transfer to our office, where you’ll receive important details about the journey ahead. From there, we head to the port to board a boat for an hour-long ride through the stunning waterways leading to our ecolodge.
Upon arrival, you’ll settle into comfortable bungalows before embarking on an introductory jungle walk. This guided two-hour trek through the dense Tambopata rainforest offers a chance to admire towering trees, some over 500 years old. Along the way, you may encounter exotic wildlife such as toucans, orioles, parrots, monkeys, snakes, and vibrant butterflies. As part of the Sandoval Lake Tour Itinerary, you will experience the magic of the Amazon within the Tambopata National Reserve, a 278,000-hectare protected area under Peruvian law.
After lunch, we will visit Monkey Island (Isla de los Monos), located across the Madre de Dios River from our lodge. This island is home to various species of monkeys, including the brown capuchin and squirrel monkey. After observing these playful creatures, we return to the ecolodge to relax.
As night falls, we set off on an exciting nocturnal adventure to spot alligators along the banks of the Madre de Dios River. Flashlights are essential for this thrilling experience, as the darkness adds to the excitement of spotting these fascinating reptiles. With a bit of luck, you may even see members of the Peruvian guinea pig family, one of the largest rodent families in the world.
Finally, we return to the lodge for a delicious dinner and a restful overnight stay. If you’re curious about the Sandoval Lake Tour Cost, we offer various options to fit your budget. Our immersive experiences make this one of the top Tambopata tours, providing an unforgettable journey into the heart of the Amazon rainforest.
Day 2.- Before sunrise, we set off on a short yet magical boat ride to the entrance of Lake Sandoval, where a serene 3-kilometer walk through the lush rainforest awaits. This immersive journey offers incredible encounters with exotic wildlife such as the vibrant Hoatzin, majestic puma heron, soaring eagles, and playful howler monkeys. As we glide through the tranquil waters on a canoe, prepare for the extraordinary sight of a giant otter family—one of the rarest treasures of the Amazon—and the awe-inspiring black caimans, some reaching an astonishing four meters in length.
